How do I join MWHI?
-
Follow the directions above for membership signup via mail, fax or online!
-
What is MWHI?
-
Migratory Waterfowl Hunters, Inc. (MWHI) is a non-for-profit organization chartered in 1970. We are dedicated to preserving waterfowl and the sport of hunting.
-
Why should I join MWHI?
-
By joining us, you will add strength to the Club and make your voice more powerful through organizational representation. Valid ideas and input for your hunting area are channeled directly to the people who have impact on its management.
-
How does MWHI represent the hunter?
-
Club officers hold countless meetings with both state and federal conservation officials to discuss various waterfowl related issues. For this purpose, we also meet with state and federal legislators, the governor, the sportsmen's legislative caucus and other sportsmen's organizations and attend wildlife conventions, to conservation seminars, symposiums and similar functions.
-
How does MWHI fight anti-hunters?
-
Anti-gun, anti-hunter and animal rights groups typically achieve their objectives in state and federal legislature. MWHI promotes and supports organizations and officials who lobby and vote against anti-gun and anti-hunter legislation. MWHI also informs its members at regular meetings, and in its newsletter, of legislation that threatens the continuation of our sport.
-
What do I get for my money?
-
You will be a part of the largest waterfowl organization in Illinois. You will receive our newsletter, the "Sentry", and the right to vote and speak your mind at regularly held membership meetings and in the annual club survey. Each member also receives a membership card and club decals.
-
What about MWHI social activities?
-
General membership meetings are held every other month with one fun-time meeting held in September, during which, no business is conducted. MWHI holds an annual hog roast free to all members and children. We sponsor an Illinois State sanctioned duck and goose calling contest at the hog roast and at the Nilo Farms annual Hunting and Fishing Day event. We also hold an annual Wild Game Feast, Chili Supper, Golf Tournament, Sporting Clay Shoot, and 5-year anniversary Celebrations. MWHI participates in local homecomings, sports-fests and other community activities.
-
What does MWHI do for youth hunters?
-
We have conducted firearm safety classes as well as having provided speakers to various schools and organizations. We have placed over 35 pro-gun and pro-hunting films from the National Shooting Sports Foundation in the local schools. MWHI also sponsored and enrolled teachers in conservation courses at SIUE. In addition, MWHI started a Ducks Unlimited Greenwing event and sponsored the Carrollton and Bethalto Youth Trap Shooting teams. We encourage young people to attend all MWHI activities; especially the annual youth duck and goose calling contest, and the wood duck nest box work day.
